Chosen
Nigerian-born ‘Chosen’ is a member of streetball team AND1. We caught up with him to find out what the craze is all about…
So, what’s this whole ‘streetball’ thing all about then?
Streetball started in 1946 when a New York City Department of Parks employee named Holcombe Rucker started a basketball tournament to give the neighborhood kids of Harlem a break from the hot summer nights. AND 1 has kept the streetball legacy alive.
How do you feel about AND1 being released as a videogame?
Fantastic and about time to be honest, we’ve been around doing this kind of thing for a while and it’s great that streetball/basketball is finally starting to get the recognition that it deserves in this country.
Do you play games and do you reckon you’re as good when you pick up a pad and play on the virtual court as you are on the real one?
Yes, I am actually the proud owner of numerous videogames (especially basketball ones), in all honesty is probably the only time that I can say I’m allowed to revisit my childhood. I’d like to think that I am talented both on and off the court! I have a few moves up my sleeve….
What do you think of sports games in general? Do you think they can get people into the real thing, or is it just the lazy mans option? - Can you learn skills that might be useful when you play the real thing?
Sport is a very personal thing…some guys like to get stuck in and play outdoors, some guys like to watch it on TV and some guys like to play it on their consoles. Which ever way you like to do it, it’s still a great way to appreciate a sport and enjoy the passion that comes with it.
