The UK videogames industry is renowned for its innovation, rising to the challenge to be at the forefront of 3D gaming and pioneering the latest in real-time photo-realistic graphics.

The success of British software industry is no short-term phenomenon. Over the last 20 years the industry has gone from strength to strength – even during the recession it’s been growing by over 20 per cent year on year, and the UK is currently the world’s fourth biggest producer of videogames. According to the UK games industry trade association TIGA, it contributes more than £1bn to UK GDP taking into account direct, indirect and induced impacts, outstripping entertainment rivals such as music and film. One of the country’s most dynamic industries, it employs over 22,000 people – in development, distribution, retail, printing and other support areas, making it the largest software employment field in Europe.
