Already looking set to be a contender as one of 2010’s top games, Bayonetta is a crazy action experience. Flamboyant to an extreme, it follows the story of an ancient witch by the name of Bayonetta and her battles with ‘heaven’s’ warriors. Knowing that its been developed by the guys that brought you the Devil May Cry series should give you an idea of how the combat plays out: times that by a hundred and you’re beginning to reach Bayonetta territory.

Simple button combos bring forth cataclysmic attacks, which will have you somersaulting around the screen. Even button bashers can call forth the apocalypse, as she punches, kicks and shoots down every insane looking enemy that blocks her path. I mean c’mon, the woman’s even got butt kicking guns attached to her stilettos.

Special ‘climax’ attacks take the madness even further as Bayonetta shapes epic scale monsters out of her own hair, which will devour even some of the god-sized monstrosities you’ll be set up against.

High quality cut scenes regularly merge with the action, giving the game a real cinematic feel, and there is a good story there, but most of the time you’re just aching to get back to the crux of the game, which is to combo till your fingers bleed.

Silly to an extreme, this game is so over the top that you simply can’t help but love it. Simply put, Bayonetta brings the fun back into the action genre.
