Very rarely can you describe a game as ‘lovely’, but there’s something about a boy and his blob that makes you go “ahh”.

A remake of a 20-year-old NES title, you take control of a little boy and the blob he befriends. He’s come to ask for help, as his home planet Blobolonia is being attacked by an evil emperor and so begins your adventure

It’s a gorgeous hand-drawn game with backgrounds that look like a watercolour painting, and it plays out as a 2D platform puzzle adventure. Blob can take on the shape of many different and useful items such as a balloon, anvil, bowling ball or ladder, by eating magical jellybeans. Using teamwork you must progress through each level feeding him the right bean to turn him into a puzzle-solving item. Each level contains three chests, each with a new jellybean to add to your collection and working you way through them involves brainpower and skill as teamwork is the only way to beat enemies or reach chests. Don’t worry though, as long as you reach the end of each level you can always return to find ways to access those hard to fathom chests.

With a total of forty levels to work through and challenging bosses to beat, a boy and his blob is enjoyable rather than frustrating. A quaint gaming experience, it will leave you loved up and chilled out.

We reckon… 4*
